Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is ubiquitous today, especially in areas that impact those of us whose lives revolve around digital devices, the internet, and social media. AI algorithms form the basis by which content is recommended on social media platforms, the basis for improvements in internet search and advertising, location navigation, chatbots, and voice-based interactive smart speaker systems. In Western countries, AI is increasingly being integrated into areas like clinical decision support for telemedicine and the development of self-driving autonomous vehicles, among many others. More recently, the launch of ChatGPT, and opening up of the underlying API, has led to an explosion of interest in AI among the general public. Suddenly AI is at our doorstep, and available to use in a personalized fashion, by feeding it the right set of prompts in order to elicit the response we are looking for. This advance is likely to lead to commoditization of a significant segment of AI, namely the automatic processing and understanding of natural languages.
